First on my list of the most comfortable office chairs is my top pick is the widely respected Steelcase Gesture Series. I tested this chair for six months, and I think it’s probably the most comfortable office chair for tall people, considering it’s 57 inches tall at full extension.
Let’s begin with the adjustable features of this office chair, which help you customize the chair’s shape to your specific needs. It has pretty much any adjustable feature you can imagine, including adjustable lumbar support, adjustable seat depth, adjustable seat height, adjustable armrests, and an adjustable headrest. I found the lumbar support, in particular, to be quite aggressive, meaning it pressures you into maintaining a healthy posture that prevents back and neck pain.
Another one of those adjustable features which impressed me are the armrests. I found the movability fantastic as you can adjust the arm up and down, sideways, and tilt them. You can even move the arm and armrest platforms separately. Steelcase Gesture has the most adjustable armrests I’ve seen on an office chair.
The chair’s seat is made from fabric and memory foam cushioning, and I found it to be pretty soft and not too firm as some other ergonomic office chairs. Steelcase Gesture allows you to move the seat forward and backward adjusting the overall seat depth, a helpful feature. The only downside of the fabric material is that it’s not breathable like mesh which can lead to excessive sweating in warm environments.
If you choose Steelcase Gesture, your chair will be protected by the outstanding 12-year Steelcase warranty. Such a long warranty only proves that the brand has deep trust in the durability of their office chairs.
In a nutshell, Steelcase Gesture is one of the most ergonomic, durable, stylish, and comfortable office chairs on the market. It is relatively expensive, but this chair is built to last and will certainly perform and last longer than cheaper options. Definitely, a wise long-term investment.

Next up is my best-value comfortable office chair, the Hon Ignition 2.0 Task Chair. This is an affordable, stylish and comfortable option with similar performance to a premium chair such as the Herman Miller Aeron.
The first thing you notice once assembling the Ignition 2.0 is its ergonomic s-shaped design featuring a breathable mesh backrest for ventilation and a soft contoured seat for comfort. This chair is available in an elegant all-black color as well as a modern two-color scheme with a fog backrest contrasted with a black seat and wheelbase.
Like most comfortable office chairs, Hon Ignition 2.0 is ergonomic, meaning it has many adjustable features allowing you to customize the chair’s shape to your body’s needs. One of those features is adjustable lumbar support which is vital for lower back posture. Another is the adjustable armrests which can be moved up and down and side to side for the perfect elbow position. The chair also has adjustable seat depth, tilt tension controls, and a lockable recline. However, it lacks a headrest.
Apart from finding this chair comfortable, ergonomic, and stylish, it feels sturdy thanks to its aluminum wheelbase and seat frame. It has a maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs which is pretty decent. In addition, buyers can benefit from the generous 5-year limited warranty covering all chair parts.
Without a doubt, Ignition 2.0 is great value for money. Its most significant pro is the affordable price tag. If you’re interested in more similarly-affordable options, feel free to check out my best office chairs under $500 beginner’s guide.

Want the most comfortable office chair, no matter the price tag? If yes, my premium pick is an ideal solution. The Herman Miller Embody ergonomic office chair is a luxury your body strives for.
First things first, Herman Miller is, without a doubt, one of the best office chair brands on the market, alongside Steelcase. Their chairs are known for their ergonomic design, high quality, and high-end price tag. It’s worth pointing out that Herman Miller offers a 12-year warranty which is something no other brand can offer apart from Steelcase.
When I first sat down on this chair, I immediately felt the adjustable PostureFit lumbar support which keeps your posture in check, keeping you comfortable during long hours of desk work. For even more comfort, the Embody Series has four individual seat layers that flex independently. As a result, the chair evenly distributes the pressure through your body while you’re working, making you forget about the discomfort.
Besides that, the chair’s seat is incredibly wide, giving me a lot of freedom to work in several positions. In addition, I found that the adjustable armrests have a wide range of movability, perfectly suiting my needs. This high-tech chair also has a tilt tension limiter that lets you set the recline range at one of three postures and change the seat angle from neutral to engaged.
In summary, If you’re not on a tight budget and want to find the most comfortable computer chair, Herman Miller Embody is worth considering, without a doubt. The only drawback is that this model doesn’t have a headrest. For more ergonomic office chairs made specifically for posture support, please check out my best office chairs for posture buying guide.

Steelcase is a premier brand in the industry, so it’s no surprise that I featured more than one of their models. The Steelcase Series 1 is one of their signature and most popular models that provides excellent comfort, support, and adjustability. However, this model is much more budget-friendly than their Gesture Series.
The chair features the LiveBack flexor system, a unique technology. I found that the chair’s backrest moves with you to help support your back and spine as you move. In addition, I found the seat cushion to be very soft on your buttock. It’s thickly padded with four support layers, including a top fabric layer and a layer of memory foam.
Just about everything on the chair is adjustable. You can adjust the arms in 4 different ways to get them right where it’s ideal for you. The lumbar support and seat depth are adjustable too, along with the standards of any good office chair: seat height and recline tension.
Another pro is the assembly of the chair which took me around 5 minutes as the chair came in three parts that can be easily clicked together even by a DIY beginner. My only downside of the Series 1 is the lack of a headrest.
In a nutshell, Steelcase Series 1 deserves to be on this list considering its comfortability, relatively affordable price tag, and outstanding 12-year Steelcase warranty. Read my best office chairs under $500 guide for more similarly priced options.

Next up is the Razer Iskur X. It’s a stylish and comfy chair widely considered as one of the best gaming chairs on the market, period. Let me tell you why.
First of all, I really like the stylish stitching pattern on the backrest and seat. Even though it’s such a minor detail, it gives it that elite, pro-gaming look. Iskur X is available in three unique color schemes; Razer classic matte black/neon green, hello kitty for girls, and Genshin Impact. Furthermore, the whole chair is covered with a faux leather material which is easy to clean as it doesn’t absorb liquid and odors.
Secondly, the chair has an ergonomic shape and many adjustable features which is rare with gaming chairs. This includes 4D adjustable armrests, adjustable recline tension, and most importantly, the adjustable lumbar support. I found all the controls and adjustments to work smoothly without too much clicking noise.
Besides that, the Iskur X Series has a strong powder-coated wheelbase which allows for a respectable 300 lb maximum weight capacity. It also comes with a standard 3-year warranty which is pretty decent considering the relatively affordable price of under $500.
In a nutshell, if you’re a gamer looking for something that provides comfort, looks, and durability at the same time, consider Razer Iskur X. For more related insight, read my most comfortable gaming chairs guide.

Next up is my top pick for ventilation, the Nouhaus Ergo3D Series. This chair is lightweight and has a seat and backrest made entirely from a breathable mesh material which is excellent for people who live in warm climates where sweating can be an issue.
First of all, I love the chair’s modern look combined with the premium rollerblade casters, making it seem like a premium office chair. This Nouhaus model was made for ergonomics, and it only took me 5 minutes of sitting on it to realize that. It has a large lumbar support section that can be adjusted to perfectly match your lower back and improve your posture, which can reduce or completely eliminate back pain.
Furthermore, this chair has other adjustable features, such as the 4D adjustable armrests, adjustable seat height, adjustable recline tension, and a fully adjustable headrest. For me, the headrest was crucial as it can help reduce neck pain, which I tend to suffer from often.
Besides that, Nouhaus Ergo3D has a solid polished aluminum wheel base which is great for resting your feet on and gives the chair a 275 lb weight capacity. However, because the seat and backrest are made entirely from thin mesh, I wouldn’t recommend it for heavy, big & tall folks.
All in all, ventilation is key to comfort, and Nouhaus Ergo3D is perhaps the best choice if the airflow is one of your essential needs. Considering the many adjustable features, stylish design, affordable price tag, and generous 5-year warranty, it is undoubtedly a worthy contender. For more insight on chairs made for airflow, please read my best mesh office chairs guide.

Next up is my most comfortable big & tall office chair pick, Serta Hensley Smart Layers. If you’re a plus-size person or have wide hips, you’ll probably want a wide, tall, and deep office chair with comfortable cushioning; Serta Hensley can certainly fulfill your needs.
So what makes this chair great for plus-size people? Well, it’s one of the largest office chairs on the market, measuring 34 inches deep and 28.25 inches wide. In addition, the chair features SmartLayers and ComfortCoils technology which made me feel like I was sitting on a sofa but not as slouched so that I could focus on getting work done.
Furthermore, this Serta model is robust. It has a plywood seat frame and a solid metal wheelbase allowing a high weight capacity of 400 lbs. Besides that, it comes with a 10-year limited warranty which is fantastic for a chair priced under $500.
The only downsides of the Serta Hensley are poor ventilation and lack of adjustability. The seat is made from faux leather, which is easy to clean and durable but not breathable, making sweating a probable issue. Additionally, it lacks adjustable features such as adjustable armrests and adjustable lumbar support, but it does have them; they just can’t be adjusted to your liking.
In summary, this chair is remarkably comfortable thanks to its XXL dimensions and multiple layers of cushioning. This makes it an ideal choice for overweight people; however, it may be too big for short folks. For more similar options, check out my best office chairs for plus-size people guide.

Next up is my all-around performer pick, the Duramont Ergonomic Office Chair. If you want comfort, ergonomics, style, and affordability combined, this chair is a worthy option.
First and foremost, this chair has a modern and minimalist style finished in an all-black color which matches every environment. Its seat is made from fabric backed by a contoured cushion for comfort, while the backrest is made from mesh for optimal back airflow to prevent sweating problems.
In addition, it has pretty much the same adjustable features as Nouhaus Ergo3D, but it’s slightly more affordable. This includes adjustable lumbar support, an adjustable headrest, 4D adjustable armrests, adjustable recline tension, and adjustable seat height.
All these ergonomic features help a lot with posture preventing back and neck pain. I felt comfortable in this chair when working for 10-hour periods. The only downside of the chair is that the adjustable armrests make a lot of noise when regulated and feel somewhat clunky.
Besides that, the Duramont ergonomic office chair feels very sturdy. It has a solid chrome metal wheelbase and alloy steel frame, which allows for a respectable 330 lb weight capacity. In addition, every Duramont chair comes with a generous five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
In summary, this Duramont model is certainly a comfortable office chair. At the same time, it’s stylish, ergonomic, reliable, and, most importantly, affordable as it’s priced under $300. For more similarly priced chairs, feel free to check out my best office chairs under $300 guide.

I couldn’t finish this most comfortable office chairs list without a budget pick, the Amazon Basics Office Chair. As the name suggests, this is just a basic office chair for limited budgets, although it has thick foam padding, which makes it quite comfortable.
The chair has an all-black design that fits well into office scenarios; however, it’s nothing special, which is understandable for such a low-budget chair. Its surface is made from faux leather, which is easy to clean as it doesn’t absorb moisture.
This model has some adjustable features, such as adjustable seat height, adjustable seat angle, adjustable recline tension, and adjustable recline angle. It also has integrated armrests on which you can rest your elbows. However, it certainly lacks many features, such as lumbar support or a headrest.
Furthermore, the chair has a nylon wheelbase with a 275 lb maximum weight capacity which is not great for heavy people. Some say that faux leather is durable; however, I’ve had this chair for over six months, and I’ve started to notice some flaking on the material.
All in all, this Amazon Basics office chair is a decent quick fix. It is surprisingly comfortable thanks to the foam padding, but it does lack many ergonomic features. Would I recommend this office chair? No. But it can work as a temporary 3-6 month solution. For more insight on budget office chairs, feel free to check out my best office chairs under $100 guide.

How We Decided
At Overheard on Conference Calls, we take pride in how we review office chairs. Our team of office chair experts spend hours researching and reviewing dozens of products before they even start writing their reviews or articles. Our goal is to bring you honest and unbiased information to help you make an informed choice that will be the best for you. Our recommendations are not for sale and they are not influenced by any of the manufacturers we review.
When looking for the most comfortable office chair, there are numerous factors we analyze to determine our recommendations. The most important are comfort, lumbar support, ergonomic features, and durability.
Comfort is key to a good office chair. It’s likely you’ll be sitting in it for hours so you’ll want something that won’t cause you aches and pains after hours of use. We gauge comfort by testing for 4+ hours as well as looking at the thickness of the seat cushion and its material.
Not all office chairs are built the same. Our durability factor looks at the quality of the materials and how sturdy the chair is after assembly. Because we have a limited test period, we also conduct customer research on longtime users.
While lumbar support is an ergonomic feature, we made this its own separate rating factor because of how important it is to your overall posture, health, and comfort. We analyze each chair for its lumbar support or lack thereof.
In addition to lumbar support, we also look at other ergonomic features such as armrests, height adjustment, reclining, seat ergonomics, and more. The better it is for your ergonomics and the more features/adjustability, the better.
Why isn’t price included on that list? Fair question! We do consider price in the order of our recommendations but because everyone has their own budget in mind, we won’t rule a chair in or out just because it has a premium or budget price.
Things to Look for When Choosing the Most Comfortable Office Chair
Before you jump into the sea of office chair models, there are a few things you need to be aware of to ensure you choose the most comfortable option. Here are some of them.
Ergonomic Design
This is, by far, one of the most crucial criteria for a comfy chair. It has to fit your natural body structure and provide excellent lumbar support. Otherwise, you’ll feel super tired and achy after a typical workday. Most ergonomic office chairs have an S-shaped backrest which is ideal for supporting your spine and preventing back pain.
Adjustable Features
I believe a comfortable office chair has to have numerous adjustable features so that you can customize it to suit the needs of your back and neck perfectly. The most important features to look for are adjustable lumbar support, adjustable seat depth, adjustable armrests, and an adjustable headrest. Adjustable recline tension is another feature I find essential.
Seat Material
The material of your office chair plays a crucial role in comfort, durability, breathability, and maintenance. For example, fabric office chairs are known for their comfort but are not breathable or water-resistant, meaning ventilation and spillages can be an issue. Mesh office chairs are ideal for ventilation, but this material can stretch out over time and is not really suitable for heavy people. Leather office chairs are comfortable, durable, and easy to clean, but they have poor ventilation leading to sweating issues.
Brand Reputation
The brand’s reputation is key to choosing a reliable office chair built to last. Brands like Steelcase and Herman Miller are the big players in the industry, known for their outstanding quality and optimal posture support. However, these chairs cost way more than their competitors, so you have to decide whether you want to spend more on a chair that can last 10+ years or a cheaper option that might only last 2-5 years.
Manufacturer’s Warranty
The manufacturer’s warranty is an essential aspect of office chairs that many online shoppers overlook. It’s a good indicator of how much trust a brand has in its office chair. In my experience, the longer the warranty, the better. If your chair breaks down, you will most likely be entitled to a refund, replacement, or repair service if the chair breaks in the warranty-covered period.
Weight Capacity
If you know you need a comfy office chair that can support more than 350 pounds, make sure to go for a big and tall model. These chairs have wider seats, taller backs, and much stronger bases. So, if you want a chair that would be both comfortable and durable, ensure you check the specifications thoroughly.
Final Verdict
It’s time for my final verdict. Which one of the office chairs mentioned in this guide is most comfortable? Which one is best? Well, this does depend on your specific needs and liking, but there are a few options that stand out the most.
If I were on an unlimited budget, I would choose the Steelcase Gesture or Herman Miller Embody. Both of these office chairs have just about every ergonomic feature you can think of and have multiple seat layers for an ultra-comfortable experience. In addition, they both come with a 12-year warranty which is simply unbeatable.
If you’re on a lower budget, I recommend two options Nouhaus Ergo3D or the Hon Ignition 2.0. These options are under $500 and have a wide range of adjustable features for optimal posture support. In addition, they all have 5-year-long warranties, which are great if you consider their price tag.
We hope our comprehensive guide to the top nine most comfortable office chairs will help you better understand the main chair specifications and make a good purchase. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to let us know.
Questions to Consider
Below are some questions you should ask yourself before making a final decision on which office chair you choose.
Does the chair have a headrest?
Some people prefer mid-back office chairs while some need to have a proper headrest to avoid pain afterward. So your choices will mostly come down to either a built-in headrest or an adjustable headrest. Luckily, there are plenty of options out there to fit your requirements.
Does the office chair fit your office interior?
While it might not be the most critical thing to worry about, it’d be great if your chair was both comfortable and looked presentable. So, don’t be afraid to spend a few extra minutes choosing the color and imagining the chair in different rooms where you might use it.
Does the chair have adjustable armrests?
For many, the armrests won’t play a huge role. But if it’s a deal-breaker for you, check whether the office chair of your choice features adjustable or flip-up armrests. This can also help you save some space if you don’t have too much of it.
How much does the chair cost?
Your budget will play a significant role when it comes to the final decision. Just beware that even if you go for a more high-end model, still make sure it fits the rest of your criteria. And vice versa, if you choose a more affordable office chair, keep in mind that it might not last as long as you would wish.
Does the chair offer adjustable tilt and rocking functions?
Again, this will mostly depend on how you prefer to use your chair. But if you like to take short brainstorming breaks during your workdays, it can be very convenient if you can lean back and relax in your office chair.
